Coastal Paintings, Landscapes, Plein Air

November on the Buffalo River, and the plein air piece that inspired it have been juried into the traveling exhibit Paint the Arkansas Parks. The paintings will be on exhibit at various venues for 2 years starting in January 2026. The exhibition of fifty plein air pieces and the studio paintings developed from these works, is the culmination of a  three year project headed by Todd Williams and Heart of America Artists. The focus was to capture en plein air, the beauty of various Arkansas Parks and develop the idea further in studio paintings. A companion book will also be available for purchase. The first stop on the tour will be at the galleries of John Brown University in Siloam Springs Arkansas with an opening reception on January 15 2026.

Nature hums with a vibrant, living energy. It’s in every rock and blade of grass, even in the air itself, and it reveals itself to anyone willing to slow down and sit quietly. I paint quiet views of nature and outdoor scenes, usually without people, that offer a feeling of contented solitude rather than loneliness. Oil paint, with its range from thin, translucent wash to thick, sculptural surface, offers a way to explore and illuminate this intangible side of nature. My hope is that these paintings invite you to wander through the layers of the canvas or linger over a passage that resonates with you, and that you leave with the same refreshed spirit nature always gives me.
